Judgement appears when we are on the verge of completing an important life cycle. You've been through it all, the moments of excitement and the daily grind, the peaks and the valleys, the triumphs and the losses. Now, whether you realize it or not, something big is preparing to come to a close. A new beginning is just over the horizon, maybe tempting you, perhaps scaring you a bit, but for the time being it's best to not get ahead of yourself -- your work with the old is not quite finished. Jumping headfirst into the new without taking time to stop and reflect on lessons learned is a surefire way to get stuck on repeat, making the same mistakes over again but with new scenery. That thing you’d feel really worried letting there be any uncertainty around?⁣ ⁣ Whatever you answered, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 the type of thing OCD or other forms of anxiety will latch onto. ⁣ ⁣ Why? Because 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 what will get your attention! That’s what will lure you into the metaphorical-mousetrap of the anxiety/OCD cycle. ⁣ ⁣ Maybe it’s...⁣ 🤍 your family —> unwanted thoughts of harm coming to your family, incest, a need to “protect” them⁣ 🧠 your health or mental health —> illness anxiety, intrusive thoughts around having a medical diagnosis or mental illness ⁣ 😃 your happiness —> existential questions that cycle repetitively, a need to know about the meaning, purpose, or reality of life ⁣ ♥️ your relationship —> repetitive thoughts about your love/attraction/compatibility with your partner, fears around infidelity⁣ 👩‍❤️‍👩 your sexuality —> uncertainty about your sexual orientation, unwanted thoughts about a gender counter to the orientation you’ve always known yourself to have⁣ 🏅 your character —> intrusive thoughts about taboo or inappropriate topics, like pedophilia, harm, incest, sex with animals. Also, a heightened sense of responsibility for the safety and well-being of others.⁣ Also, replaying undesirable, real events that have happened in your life. ⁣ 🧼 your cleanliness/health —> sticky thoughts about germs and other contaminants, fear of getting sick ⁣ 👧🏼 your children —> excruciating thoughts about harm coming to them by you or any other way⁣ ⁣ Now, these are just some examples. I know it looks like a lot, but the list of things OCD and anxiety can latch onto is endless. 𝐈𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠. This is so important for both sufferers and clinicians to understand and why it’s important to work with a specialist.⁣ ⁣ Learn your cheese. Then, when OCD uses it to lay its trap, say, “nuh uh, OCD! Moje wyobrażenie dobrego i szczęśliwego życia mocno ewoluowało w ciągu ostatnich piętnastu lat. Kiedyś chciałam mieć duży, pięknie urządzony dom z ogrodem i basenem, nowoczesny samochód, poczucie niezależności finansowej, rozumianej wówczas jako: „mogę pozwolić sobie na wiele, jeśli nie na wszystko”. Pragnęłam mieć dziesięć fakultetów (zrobiłam trzy 😃), napisać doktorat (mam połowę 😛); mieć sporo wolnego czasu dla siebie, męża i dzieci, wyjeżdżać do ciepłych krajów przynajmniej sześć razy w roku. Życzyłam sobie rajskiego życia w komfortowych warunkach; w luksusie. I żyłam w przekonaniu, że to wszystko (i jeszcze więcej) przyniesie mi i nam poczucie rzeczywistego spełnienia i satysfakcji... wolności i ukojenia. Kiedy zorientowałam się, że moje rozumienie zadowolenia z życia i niezależności w istocie niewiele ma z nimi wspólnego, zatrzymałam się. To nie była chwila. To był proces. Trochę jakby mocno rozciągnięte w czasie hamowanie. Ileż się wtedy dowiedziałam o sobie i świecie! O tym, że prawdziwa niezależność nie musi wiązać się z byciem zamożnym człowiekiem i możliwością pozwalanie sobie na wszystko, a raczej z zachowaniem stanu jasnego i spokojnego umysłu NIEZALEŻNIE od czynników zewnętrznych (np. zysku i straty). O tym, że liczne fakultety i obrona pracy doktorskiej nie dają wewnętrznej siły – MIMO WSZYSTKO. Nie świadczą o randze człowieka, są lub mogą być dopełnieniem wiedzy czy rozwoju, ale i nieskutecznym (niestety) lekiem na niskie poczucie własnej wartości. A tę karmić warto jednak akceptacją siebie – swoich cech, uczuć, granic, potrzeb i emocji… unikalnych przeżyć i doświadczeń… I zobaczyłam w tym wszystkim swoje dzieci z perspektywy ich potrzeb, które, jak się okazuje, domykają się we wszystkim, co możemy im dać i co jest w NAS... 💯Dalszą część wpisu znajdziesz na blogu.
