With a colourful, glitzy, and seemingly lighthearted aesthetic, the works in #MikaRottenberg’sexhibition touch on heavy topics such as sweatshop labor, the role of women in the workplace, the inequities of global capitalism and immigration. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Her film “Cosmic Generator” shows workers in cramped spaces who produce glittery tinsel garlands, blinking strands of colourful lights and other party decorations 🎊🎈🎉 The same type of garlands hang in the gallery outside the film’s screening room at #NewMuseum

#tbtto my @museeorsayvisit | These pictures don’t capture what my heart was feeling as I walked through every room and saw works of art that I had only seen in textbooks. From Degas, Rodin, Delacroix, Courbet, Manet, Renoir, Rousseau, Lautrec, Cézanne, VanGogh, Vulliard...and my all time favorite...GAUGUIN + so much more. Neo-Classicism, Impressionism, Art Nouveau, sculptures and photography...I could’ve spent all day in there. (Note: don’t go to art museums with people not interested in art museums😐) It also makes me want to go back to school to study art history and restructure how it’s taught so that we also learn about art produced by “minorities” or as some museums call it “the others” 👀🤷🏽‍♀️. . . #girlsinmuseums#artmuseum#paris#arthistory#artworld#fineart

AI WEI WEI, Circle of Animals (Dragon), 2011 at K21 @k_sammlungnrw In his largest presentation in Europe so far, set in two museums in Düsseldorf, Ai Wei Wei continues to capture the viewer with impressive craftsmanship and „making of“ as medium for his ideas. Here is an artist who orchestrates what he wants to express with an armada of „producers“ in ever changing forms. Sometimes Blue-and-White porcelain, sometimes woodwork, sometimes bronze like you see here for the „Circle of Animals“ and sometimes just by himself by taking a mirror selfie in a decisive moment like in „Illumination“. So one of the interesting questions to ask when looking at Ai Wei Wei‘s artworks is, why did he choose this particular material and medium to express his idea? Using historic techniques and forms connects the contemporary with the past, history and tradition. So you might follow the path and feel the connection and question the relevance. On Saturday I will share some more clues and background to works on view in this exhibition and I hope you come along for Ai WeiWei - Part 2 in my stories! For those who missed Part 1, you will be able to access the full ART FEATURE after in my Highlight section. And you can still go for a visit until 1.9.2019 ————————————————— #aiweiwei#kunstsammlungnrw#girlsinmuseums#museum#dragon#artblog

Anyone else feeling like it can’t possibly only be Thursday?! 🤔⠀ •⠀ I feel like this illustration perfectly encapsulates any given week, you can go from top left, to center, to center right from one day to the next. And what’s so great about Rockwell’s work is his attention to detail—even in something as simple as these cheerleader scenes, there’s still so much going on. I only just realized that the little football players are in each pose, I think they’re even the reason why she’s tripping and falling over in the bottom! 🤸🏻‍♀️🏈⠀ •⠀ Which one of these are you today?! Tell me below! ⠀ •⠀ “The Cheerleader” Norman Rockwell, 1963⠀ •⠀ •⠀ •⠀ •⠀ •⠀ #satevepost#normanrockwell#rockwell#cheerleader#football#footballseason#contemporaryart#americanart#illustrations#americanartist#mood#muselife#museums#museumvisit#imamusaller#museumblogger#girlsinmuseums#museumgram#instamuseum#millennialsinmuseums#bostonblogger#museumblog#artblogger#arthistory#igersmuseum#theeverygirl#museumlover

“Menesunda Reloaded,” is the @newmuseumrecreation of Argentine artist Marta Minujín’s 1965 installation La Menesunda which is among one of the first large-scale immersive art experiences. Marta is credited with predicting the current obsession with pop-up museums. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ TIP: This exhibit is not meant to be photographed, it’s meant to be EXPERIENCED! A few people are allowed in at a time, so you have to be mindful of the time you spend inside. “Menesunda” means a confusing situation, and this exhibit’s 11 experiences does that and sensitizes and surprises you along the way. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You begin by entering through a pink plastic cutout of a person. You’re instructed to go straight to the second floor where you see yourself in 1960s television screens. Eventually the labyrinth leads you to a tunnel of neon signs, and a bedroom where a couple enjoys a moment of privacy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You then make your way to a pink room with makeup and beauty products glued to the wall. A makeup artist/masseuse offers her services. She tells us that this space represents her mind, and since women didn't work in the 60s, makeup was clearly the only thing in their minds *note sarcasm*. She invited us to get a glimpse inside her thoughts through climbing a stepladder and peeking through a hole in the wall; what I saw was creepy 😩 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You eventually get inside a rotating basket that leads to 2 different doorways; one where you squeeze through plastic intestines, and another where you hop through a room filled with styrofoam packing peanuts. You then come across a telephone; dial the right code and you’ll enter a bright refrigerator. Finally, you pass through a forest of textures and see a room of mirrors and are lead back to reality. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Visit before it ends September 29, 2019. There’s Pay-what-you-wish Thursday’s from 7PM-9PM but it does get crowded so arrive early to start forming the line outside the museum. The exhibit is on the 3rd floor! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #burodertig#museumvoorlinden#voorlinden#voorlindenmuseum#yayoikusama#kusama#kusamayayoi#infinitynets#narcissusgarden#artwatchers#artwatcher#museumvisit#girlsinmuseums#dutchgirlsinmuseums#imamusaller#museumlover#peoplematchingartworks
